Question 1

What license is required to drive on Guam?

Accepted Answer

Guam law lets visitors drive on a valid license from certain countries for up to 30 days after arrival: Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, the Philippines, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, EU member countries, Palau, the Federated States of Micronesia and the Marshall Islands. A license from a U.S. state or territory is good for 90 days. With one of these licenses, you don't need an International Driving Permit. If your license was issued in a country not on that list, please contact us before you book. Staying longer than 30 or 90 days? The period can be extended for up to one year by registering your license with the Guam Department of Revenue and Taxation. Active-duty service members and their dependents with a valid U.S. state license don't need a Guam license. Bring the original license with you. A photo or photocopy isn't something we can accept at pickup.

Question 2

At what age can I rent a car in Guam?

Accepted Answer

Any licensed driver aged 18 or older is welcome to rent with us.

Question 3

Are there additional fees based on age?

Accepted Answer

No — our published rates don't include any surcharge tied to how old you are, as long as you meet the 18-and-over requirement. That puts us at odds with a lot of rental companies overseas, where renters in their early twenties often get hit with an extra "young driver" charge.

Question 4

What do I need to rent a car?

Accepted Answer

Three things: the driver's license, a credit card (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, or Diners), and a passport. If the credit card being used belongs to someone other than the driver, that person's passport needs to come along as well — both passports are required in that case.

Question 5

Can I rent without a credit card?

Accepted Answer

Unfortunately, no. Payment has to go on a credit card (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, or Diners) — cash, debit cards, prepaid cards, and traveler's checks are all turned away at the counter. On top of the rental charge, a refundable $100 security deposit is placed on that same card when you pick up the vehicle, and it's released once you've returned the car undamaged.

Question 6

What is included in the car rental fee?

Accepted Answer

The quoted rate covers the vehicle itself, automobile liability insurance, and unlimited mileage — there's no per-mile charge to watch for on a long drive. The included liability insurance caps out at $100,000 for one injured person, $300,000 total if an accident hurts more than one person, and $50,000 for property damage. Beyond those figures, CDW, ZDW, and NOC are all available as optional add-ons.

Question 7

Are there any restrictions on installing a child safety seat?

Accepted Answer

Guam law calls for a seat suited to your child: an infant seat for the youngest ones, a convertible seat once they outgrow that, and a booster for older kids who still need a boost. We stock all three types. The exact rental rate depends on the season and length of rental, so check the pricing page for the current figure rather than an old number here.

Question 8

Is the cost of gasoline included in the rental fee?

Accepted Answer

Gas is on you. We send every car out with a full tank, and the expectation is that it comes back the same way. Return it short of full and we'll bill from our own rate card to top it off — a route that costs noticeably more than just stopping at a station yourself before you drop the car off.

Question 9

Do you offer hotel or airport pick-up and drop-off?

Accepted Answer

A free round-trip shuttle runs to hotels in the Tumon area — check with us or see the full rental guide for which properties are covered. We don't send anyone to meet you at the terminal, but the Tumon Main Office sits about 1.8 miles (roughly 2.8km) from the airport — call it a 10-minute taxi ride, with fares running around $20. A tip of 10-15% of that fare is the local norm. Show your taxi receipt when you settle up and we'll knock $15 off the rental. No receipt means the discount can't be applied, and it doesn't stack with other offers. Heading to the airport or back to your hotel when you're done? That ride is free, straight from the Main Office.

Question 10

Can you bring a rental car to my hotel?

Accepted Answer

That's not something we're set up to do — every rental starts at the Tumon Main Office, where the paperwork gets handled in person. If your hotel is in the Tumon area, the free shuttle mentioned above will get you there and back without needing your own transportation.

Question 11

Is there a place to park my car at night?

Accepted Answer

Almost every hotel on Guam includes parking at no charge, so your own hotel's lot is usually the simplest option — street parking generally isn't necessary. One general safety habit worth keeping: don't leave anything valuable sitting out in view inside the car overnight.

Question 12

Is the rental car an automatic transmission (AT) car?

Accepted Answer

Every car in the fleet is automatic. We simply don't stock manual transmission vehicles, so there's no risk of ending up with a stick shift you didn't expect.

Question 13

Can I specify the car model and color?

Accepted Answer

Reservations lock in a class of vehicle, not a specific make, model, or color — the actual car comes from whichever models in that class are available the day you pick up. If you've got a particular model in mind, feel free to mention it, but we can't guarantee it'll be the one waiting for you.

Question 14

Are children included in the passenger capacity?

Accepted Answer

Yes — a child riding along takes up a seat just like anyone else, so they're counted toward the vehicle's total capacity no matter how young they are. Worth keeping in mind when you're picking a class: leave room for a car seat if your group includes a child who'll need one.

Question 15

Are rental cars non-smoking?

Accepted Answer

Every car in the fleet is non-smoking. If a vehicle comes back smelling strongly enough of smoke that we can't turn it around for the next renter, a cleaning charge will apply.

Question 16

What insurance coverage is included in the rental fee?

Accepted Answer

Every rental comes with automobile liability insurance already built in — no need to opt into it separately. It covers up to $100,000 per person injured (capped at $300,000 total per accident) and up to $50,000 in property damage. For anything beyond that, CDW, ZDW, and NOC are each available as optional coverage.

Question 17

What is the cost if I have an accident?

Accepted Answer

A $150 legal processing fee comes up no matter who's at fault or what coverage you're carrying — that part is unavoidable once an accident happens. Skip CDW and ZDW and you're on the hook for up to $1,000 of the vehicle repair bill yourself (the rest is capped at $50,000 total). Skip NOC and the loss-of-use charge falls to you too — $250 if the car can still be rented out, $400 if it can't. Carrying none of the optional coverage at all leaves you exposed to a lot more than that, which is exactly why we recommend adding it if the extra peace of mind is worth it to you.

Question 18

Can I raise the liability insurance limit included in the rental fee?

Accepted Answer

The liability limits baked into every rental — $100,000 per person and $300,000 per accident for injuries, $50,000 for property damage — aren't something you can pay extra to raise. If you want more protection than that, CDW, ZDW, and NOC cover different ground (vehicle repair costs and loss-of-use charges rather than liability), so they're worth a look even though they don't change these particular numbers.

Question 19

Is there a contact point in Japan?

Accepted Answer

We don't keep a separate line just for calls from Japan. Wherever you're dialing from, our Guam number (+1-671-642-8000) and email both get through just fine.

Question 20

Can I drive a rental car to Ritidian Beach?

Accepted Answer

We'd rather you didn't. That stretch has drawn reports of crime aimed at tourists, the road surface is rough enough that a flat tire is a real possibility, and cell coverage can drop out entirely if something goes wrong. If seeing it is still on your list, a local guided tour is a much safer way to get there than driving yourself.
